Effective slice volleys require a high racket preparation. Holding the racket head above the wrist allows for a controlled downward motion. Players often make the mistake of preparing too low or closing the racket face, which leads to flat shots or balls hit into the net. A high, open preparation keeps the racket ready for fast incoming balls and enables a consistent high-to-low swing path.
Contact should occur next to the body rather than far in front. Pushing the ball with a compact swing creates a lower bounce and better control. Avoid a follow-through that moves upward, as this sends the ball toward the glass. The grip must remain continental to keep the wrist locked and the racket head stable. Leading the stroke with the handle rather than the racket head ensures the ball stays low and minimizes the rebound off the opponent's glass.
