Rulo technique: slow placement to the side fence
Key takeaway from our Guru
How do I play the rulo shot in padel?
Turn your shoulders and feet early to prepare. Keep your power between 40 and 50 percent and aim for the side fence to keep the ball unpredictable.
What this lesson covers
The rulo serves as a tactical alternative when an opponent lobs and the ball remains above the head. Instead of opting for a high-power smash or bandeja, the player directs the ball slowly toward the side fence. This unpredictable trajectory forces opponents out of position and often results in an easier return to attack.
Successful execution requires a full turn of the shoulders and feet before contact. The ball is struck at a high point with power limited to between 40 and 50 percent. Players may choose to hit the ball flat or apply slight topspin depending on the desired arc. This shot remains effective from both the left and right sides of the court.
