Net positioning for effective attacking
Key takeaway from our Guru
Where should I stand at the net to attack effectively?
Stand three to four meters from the net. This distance gives you the time needed to perform a split step and hit the ball in front of your body.
What this lesson covers
Standing too close to the net restricts reaction time and forces defensive blocks rather than controlled attacks. The ideal net position sits three to four meters from the net, allowing enough space to perform a split step and impact the ball in front of the body. Standing closer leaves the court exposed and makes it difficult to recover after an opponent's lob.
When a lob is short, move forward to attack. If the lob is deep, retreat to play a transition shot or a bajada. A vibora provides more time to recover the net compared to a high-risk smash. When hitting a bandeja or vibora, aim for the middle to reduce the opponent's angles. Adjust your court coverage based on the opponent's patterns, shifting toward the middle if they repeatedly target your partner. Proper positioning prevents the need for desperate, rushed shots and maintains the offensive advantage.
